A New Year, A Renewed Commitment to Public School Education in Alberta

As we step into a brand-new year, I want to take a moment to reflect on our shared accomplishments and look ahead with optimism and determination. The work we do together as trustees, administrators, and advocates for public school education is nothing short of extraordinary. Together, we are shaping the future of Alberta through our steadfast commitment to supporting and enhancing the public education system.

I have said it multiple times, and I will continue to say it, public school education ensures that every child, regardless of their background, has access to opportunities that help them realize their full potential. This important fact is one that compels me to continue PSBAA’s advocacy work in hopes for funding, resources, and space for all Alberta students. As an association, we carry a profound responsibility—to nurture, advocate for, and lead the way for this essential pillar of our communities, and I am proud to say that we are rising to this challenge with innovation, compassion, and an unwavering focus.

This year holds tremendous promise. Across Alberta, there is a growing recognition of the vital role public school education plays in fostering social cohesion, economic development, and individual success. Provincial conversations are increasingly centered on inclusivity, equity, and the resources needed to meet the diverse needs of our learners. As we move into an election year, a goal of mine, and for PSBAA, is to ensure these conversations stay front and centre during important talks with government officials and in our professional development gatherings. These investments are not just about the present; they are about building a resilient and prosperous future for generations to come.

As we navigate the beginning of 2025, it is vital to celebrate the achievements of those who make this progress possible. Our public school trustees play a pivotal role in this journey. You are the voices of our communities and the guiders of public resources. Your advocacy for adequate funding, student mental health supports, teacher development, and innovative programming ensures that public school education continues to thrive across this province.

I believe the year ahead is filled with opportunities. PSBAA will continue to work together to strengthen partnerships with officials, caregivers, parents and educators. We will embrace emerging technologies, support leveling the playing field in classroom environments, and ensure that all students feel valued and empowered to succeed. By prioritizing collaboration and keeping the needs of our students at the heart of every decision, we can achieve remarkable outcomes.

This is a time to dream big and act boldly. The future of public school education in Alberta is brimming with potential, and together, we have the power to turn that potential into a reality.
I want to thank you all for your passion, leadership, and dedication to this critical work. Let us approach the new year with renewed energy and a shared vision for a stronger, brighter future for public school education.

Here’s to a year of progress, promise, and possibility!
