Wellness and Learning are top of mind for PSBAA in June

In early June, we held our first in-person Spring General Assembly (SGA) in three years!

It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces again, and meet new trustees who were elected last fall for the first time.

The theme for this year’s SGA was wellness – most appropriate after the past two years. We had a wonderful roster of speakers and presenters and a full two and a half days of professional learning, networking and exchanging of ideas. If you missed it, you missed a lot, and we really missed you!

Thank you to everyone who attended SGA and has already completed the event evaluation survey. As a member-driven Association, we value your feedback on the event and suggestions for future speakers.

The early indications from the survey are that everyone who attended thought the event was well-organized, with several comments about how much attendees appreciated hearing from other boards about what is working to benefit students in their jurisdictions.

Speaking of upcoming events, we hope to see you at our Fall Conference and AGM, from October 12-14, 2022 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel West Edmonton. Please keep an eye on our Events page on the PSBAA website at https://public-schools.ab.ca/new-events/ and watch The Advocate for details on registration, coming very soon.

June is also a busy month as many schools are holding in-person graduation ceremonies, after two years of virtual events. I am so proud of our students, teachers, families and school communities who have persevered and been so resilient over the past 24 months, and to our public school board trustees who have been so dedicated to maintain the resources our students need for academic success. This year’s celebration is special indeed.

As we look ahead to summer, more families are going to be travelling further afield again and catching up with loved ones they haven’t seen in person for a while. I hope you have a safe, relaxing and enjoyable summer, and we will see you back here in early September!

Dennis MacNeil,
PSBAA President
