Franklin Covey Webinar: Leadership Through Whirlwinds and Uncertainties

The Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta welcomes Franklin Covey to host a webinar session on Leadership Through Whirlwinds and Uncertainties – A Focus on the Impact of Physical and Mental Wellness and Building Positive Outcomes, with Dr. Marty Schafer. The webinar will take place on Friday, September 29 from 1-3:30 p.m.

The webinar will focus on the following:

  • Understanding signals from our Brain on Burnout: Using Neuroscience to Support Wellness.
  • Developing tools to keep ourselves engaged and focused as we continue to face uncertain and difficult times.
  • Defining issues we should be aware of that can impact our mental health and wellness.
  • How do we use trust to rebuild our relationships with our community and with our colleagues?
  • What have we learned through the last three years that can help us plan better for the future as we incorporate mental wellness and mental health into our strategic planning?
  • What types of wellness exercises, activities, communications, strategies should we consider around wellness issues that will help us to positively impact student achievements?
  • How does our focus on our own wellness and well-being lend itself to productivity, effective governance, good decision-making and sound judgement calls?
  • Key elements of a cohesive team and effective Board!

The PSBAA is hosting this session exclusively to members for $250 per board. This includes all members of your board and any administration/support staff that would be interested in attending. If this sounds interesting for your school board register now!


Marty Schafer, DMin, builds leadership capacity and teams at the School Board, Superintendent and district level.

Marty is an innovative leader who builds strategic teams through collaboration, curriculum and shared vision resulting in the growth of educational, business and community partnerships. Marty is a huge advocate for public education and his background of educational connections, experiences, management, government contracts and community service is an asset to him. Marty holds a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning from Western Washington University and a master’s and doctorate degree from Golden Gate Seminary in the field of Ministry and Leadership Studies.

Marty has 18 years of service as a board director of a diverse urban school district. Currently, Marty is leading a FranklinCovey Educations “Great Boards” professional development for Boards and Superintendents in North America. Marty wrote the framework for this course and is instrumental in creating an expansion plan and building the team on a national level.

Marty has facilitated and participated in leadership development conferences for schools in the Philippines, for Indigenous groups in Alaska, as well as various venues in the United States. He also provided direction and vision to expand educational opportunities with the military. Marty is a lifelong supporter of public education through developing people, curriculum and structures that increase the effectiveness of student and community engagement.
